Capacitor Brands-Different Amp Draw?

I recently had a GE 50/7.5 uf capacitor blow in my condenser. I found a discount, but new, capacitor with the same rating online and performed the easy one-for-one swap. The brand of the new capacitor was advertised as Lennox, but when I received it, it said Rotom and it was about 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. The seller assured me it was the same exact part currently used as a replacement. However, I have noticed my power usage has skyrocketed since the replacement far above what I have ever experienced. And my energy bill is killing me. Does the GE/Genteq capacitor have a lower amp draw compared to the competitors or do I have another problem? My A/C seems to be working fine, just using alot more energy.

Yes, as more and more companies are outsourcing (and looking overseas for their parts) you will find more and more brands that you have not heard of. (One of my favorites is the All American sounding "Zhongshon Broad-Ocean" motors). GE Genteq is one of, if not the, best capacitors on the market, and much better than the overseas equivalents. That said, the difference is in durability and life rather than operational quality. Unfortunately, the capacitor cannot make your unit pull more electric, and if you are doing so, it sounds as though you have another problem. Being borderline low on freon is one of the simplest reasons, but there are many more. (Just comeing through the hottest month in recorded history is another one!).

Sorry I cannt pinpoint exactly what is going on with your unit, but rest assured, it is not your capacitors fault . Good luck with the unit and stay cool! (Cheaply)
